we met fred ventura in 2006 over emails sent to italians do it better headquarters. he was one of the first people from europe to start writing the label prior to after darks release. it took us a few months to realize that this was fred ventura, the cult italo legend from milan. like a true gentleman, he had never bothered to mention it. since the early 1980s fred ventura has released numerous singles in europe & toured the world extensively as a solo artist. last year, johnny was in bologna on tour with desire & fred came out to the show to drink champagne & bring us some copies of the reissued tapes of fred’s early post punk group state of art. the lightbulb lit up & we asked him if he had any home recordings of his solo work. months later, he sent us 83 tracks of cassette recordings between 1982 & 1987. they had been sitting upstairs in a dusty box at his parents house in italy for the last 25 years. these tracks have only been heard by a handful of his closest friends. we were completely floored & honored! finding a beautiful treasure completely untouched & preserved is so rare. the songs are raw & honest written by a romantic with a love for an anthemic chorus & a drum machine running through his veins. think early minimal depeche mode with an italian heart. ornew order covering madonna produced moroder. yes, its that good. here we have the first official italians do it better release of these songs on a 4 song 12inch ep. this vinyl only release is a teaser for the >dont give up< 18 track lp out in a couple of months. so in the meantime, slip on those gucci loafers, rev up the alfa romeo and head down to the discotheque because life is too short

we all knew very well that we had reached a point of no return. there was no need to talk about it. and although there was hardly enough time for us to reflect on our shared experiences, we were sure that everything was going to be alright. all four of us were sitting there, facing each other, sad, yet full of confidence. never again we would allow any meatball to bully us around. we have had enough of this useless on and off, and of all this stupid jobs of even more stupid users. from now on, we will programme our chips ourselves. >go to hell! no one will ever touch my board again! in the future, i will solder it myself, and the way i want it to! robotica, here we come!<

boys and diamonds is unmistakably a pop album but also one that comfortably fits in with kompakts long-standing lineage of genre-refracting releases. you will be hard up find another record that cohesively brings to mind siouxsie rubbing elbows with shabba ranks, giorgio moroder sipping daiquiris in bali, desmond dekker envisioned through skittering footwork, tom tom club sitting in with congotronics, even early madonna produced by chris and cosey. unlikely as all of that sounds, rainbow arabia makes it sound easy. mostly recorded at their home studio in echo park, muppet palace, boys and diamonds was written and produced by the couple with help from their friends in los angeles and beyond. drummer/producer extraordinaire butchy fuego (pit er pat, boredoms, mia) contributes arrangements and beats in places, and icy demons dylan ryan plays on the percussion-heavy island shuffle nothin gonna be undone . the album was mixed at the wonderful hobby shop studios in la by mudrock, who also adds some final production touches on the record. the 11 new songs on the album, were also made possible by the encouragement of peers/heroes in la like former ghosts, fool s gold, secret circuit, abe vigoda, and part time punks dj crew. outside of their hometown, they also found support and inspiration from kindred spirits like pictureplane, spoek mathambo, as well as their new home, the ever-illustrious kompakt

boys noize and housemeister, 2 good old friends from berlin with a lot of love for analog found together again to rave in the studio. after their first collaboration in 2006 under the name of eastwest, they are now brining us 3 new jams you don¥t want to miss. shizzo is the track youd probably expect from these 2 f..ckers:loud, noizy and stupid! its up and down parts shake the club like you were sitting in a rollercoaster - beware this is not for everyone. nbaxx is a new breakbeat track. breakbeat?yeah! with a hint of inspiration by lfo freak, this one comes quite minimal but hard, just the way these buddies like it. saturday the secret a side on this maxi is a disco-tech track, with moving arpeggios and big melodic break where spheric disco pads cool you down before you and the kids jump up to this piece of 2011 disco music.

averse to any easy classification, rainbow arabias continent-trekking, kaleidoscope pop is rooted in no particular time or place, employing modern technological processes to an array of musical cultures and eras. the los angeles duo began with the purchase of a lebanese casio that played microtonal scales and eastern beats, with which they quickly recorded their propulsive first ep, the basta, synthesizing bossa nova and industrial post-punk with heavy middle eastern vibes. digging deeper for inspiration from the worldly found sounds of sublime frequencies compilations, their follow-up ep, kabukimono, expanded the color palette of their >fourth world< pop with dark, arabic disco-dancehall jams sitting alongside sunnier moments with caribbean and african flourishes...

the second instalment of the aprÚs vinyl series sees australian producer touch sensitive (also a member of van she) kicking things off with >body stop<, an italo disco stomper thats been at home in the fc catalogue for quite some time. recently unearthed by london based producer toby tobias in a chart of >hidden gems< it seemed only natural to ask toby to remix body stop and the result sees toby putting more space in the track, pushing it further onto the dancefloor and keeping it playful all at once. on the flip we take the uk connection a little further with leeds based producer bonar bradberry floating into cosmic territory with >fought & won< whilst toby tobias turns in some glorious tour-bus-disco on >azul blue<, guitars and acid lines sitting comfortably side by side for the ride.

like many of us over here at bear towers, giorgio sancristoforo aka tobor disco experience has an unhealthy interest in the 1970s - the instruments of bob moog, vocoders, alan parsons - the cult sci fi series space 1999 - and here hes used the decade as a sonic palette to create the kind of ep that gets the whole office (ie: both of us, on pcs at home, occasionally) sitting up and listening. opener disco moog has already been used on our rools for rules compilation earlier this year and had many beards twitching at the prospect of forthcoming vinyl. shooting star is a more uptempo affair with blissful chords, slap bass, disco handclaps and gios trademark vocoder. i feel loved is a personal favourite of stevie kotey with anthem written all over it. this awesome clavinet workout has such a good vibe about it you cant help feeling nothing but loved. it could easy be mistaken for alan hawkshaw super rare bruton library track.

from its hallmark opening bassline, to the synth heavy powerchords of the whistle along chorus, theres no straying from the fact that metronomys future single heartbreaker is catchy as hell. its an electronic ode to male heartbreak that ll both cut you to the quick and have you dancing all the way to the therapists chair. sonically, heartbreaker is perhaps metronomys most precise, radio friendly, and sure fire hit single to date. it best represents the straight forward genius of a band who ve been sitting on sizeable chunk of pioneering electronic ideas since mount first began recording under the bands moniker in 2005. they ve maintained a wholly modest approach to stardom whilst amassing an army of strangely obsessive fans. with a full package of club floor fillers and luxurious disco mixes, heartbreaker is the most zeitgeist capturing record of the moment, a must have for pop lovers, dance lovers, indie kids and the discerning music consumer.

brothers bud boldly return with a double dose of peak time finger lickin dopeness in the form of the sting/remedy. dom bud is the in house engineer for micky slims productions, so its no surprise that the electro flavours have rubbed off. the stings synth bassline buzzes and stabs amongst distinctly rolling rhythms, neither sitting in the breakbeat camp nor electro, just where we like it! on the flip remedy is pure finger lickin. clicking, disco stabs and cowbells, laced with fat drums and dreamy house vocals make this an essential addition to the ever expanding brothers bud armoury

matt u?s >mute soul< features a fast moving conga sample mixing with analogue synth stabs and an extra deep sub bass line, all underpinned by a simply massive beat. the b side >parilla< by cardopusher, also features an interesting percussion arrangement, with a stepping beat and a some mid range lfo madness sitting on top of the sublime b-line

another fine release on winding road records! this is a debut ep from bleep district. true to their name, the 4 tracks here contain plenty of mesmerising bleeps sitting inside the slick deep house grooves youd expect from the label. the lead track, bleep of faith, is peaktime voodoo house with cool vocals, and a wicked bassline which comes as a special surprise half way through. robot claart is superdeep, hypnotic tech-house with a cheeky jamaican dub twist. when i saw you, possibly the strongest tune of the package, is a real killer. with polished production, reverse vocal licks and an ubercool bleepy bassline, this track is a contender to be a summer anthem of 2008. essential! the last track on the package, some may say, is an eccentric but irresistable hip-hop meets folk-house number. yet another winning package from winding road

born in australia but moving to japan in 2000, luke le mans is the main organizer of the night >quop< in osaka which focused on bringing big international djs and contribute to create a scene in the roughest japanese city. after releasing his debut ep on trapez luke is back with this 2 tracker ontrenton. much more mature, his talent as a producer are undeniable and we hope that this will be the beginning of long series of old school but yet modern minimal material for trenton. >dark helmet< has dry beats and a funky bass line with a crazy chords pattern that has some sort of a b horror movie vibe… like a minimal techno version of a dario argentos soundtrack, dark helmet will bring you out-there! the second track called >lisa< is a bit more old school but still rules and the endless loopy bass ramp that just keeps on building up will make your legs feel a bit less heavy and your mouth a bit thirstier… slg is back on trenton, but for a remix this time. after is very first ep on our label we are proud to have him back. his version of >dark helmet< is just outstanding… pure slg style, it has it all: detroit, minimal, forward, groovy… if you are still sitting in a clubs corner after hearing that on the p.a…. means that you have serious issues with being able to feel the funk!!
